Stephen A. 'Steve" Palmieri Sr. 92 of Worcester died peacefully Wednesday July 9, 2008 after a brief illness. Steve is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years Sophie M. (Conti) Palmieri, three loving son's Stephen A. Palmieri Jr. and his wife Eleanor of Boylston, Robert E. Palmieri of Worcester, and Worcester City Councilor Philip P. Palmieri and his wife Maria of Worcester, four proud grandchildren; Stephen, Cheryl, Elise, and Alexandra, and three great grandchildren; Alyssa, Madison, and Matthew, and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by four brothers; Joseph, John, James and Anthony, Palmieri, and two sisters; Ann Troio, and Lucy Palmieri. Stephen was born in Worcester on December 29, 1915 son of Salvatore and Pasqualina (Natale) Palmieri and lived here all his life. Steve was a Section Supervisor for the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority for thirty two years before he retired. He was a life member of Our Lady Of Mt Carmel-St Ann Church, the East Side Post # 201 American Legion, a fifty year attendee and member of the Calvary Retreat Center, and was a co founder and long time president of the Joe DiMaggio Little League of Worcester. Steve was also a patron of the San Vitaliano Society. In his younger years Steve played for the Blue Jays A.A. and several other teams and excelled in baseball. He was an avid sports fan and was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather and will be missed dearly by his family and friends. Steve was a proud resident and a fixture in his Shrewsbury Street neighborhood which he loved. Over the years Steve had a enthusiastic interest in Politics and through out his life was involved in many political campaigns. Stephen's funeral will be held Monday from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 370 Plantation St. with a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00AM in Our Lady Of Mt Carmel- St Ann Church 24 Mulberry St. Calling hours in the funeral home are 4-7PM on Sunday.
