Stephen M. Kamyk, 55, of Vernon Street in Worcester, passed away after a long illness on Friday, January 4, 2008, surrounded by his loving family in UMass Hospital. Stephen leaves a brother, Joseph J. Kamyk; a sister, Joanne Panarelli and her husband Alex Panarelli all of Worcester; many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was born in Worcester, the son of Chester J. and Angelina (Monopoli) Kamyk. Stephen moved to Clearwater, Florida for several years, in the early 1980's where he attended Clearwater Junior College, before returning to Worcester. Mr. Kamyk worked as a truck driver for Hallmark Stores and had also been a cook for Kapok Tree Inn, in Clearwater. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel-Saint Ann Church. An avid music fan, Stephen enjoyed attending concerts, and was fortunate to have been at Woodstock in the 1960's. He enjoyed running, participated in many 5K and 10K road races, to raise money for many charities. The funeral for Stephen will be held Monday, January 7, from MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, with a Mass at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel-Saint Ann Church, 24 Mulberry Street, Worcester. Interment will follow in Saint John's Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Monday morning from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home, immediately prior to departing for church. The family has requested that flowers be omitted.
