Sophie B. (Gentile) Astrella, 83, of Flagler Drive in Holden, formerly of Shrewsbury, passed away, Saturday, April 12, 2008, in Memorial Hospital. Her husband, of sixty years, Andrew A. "Andy" Astrella, pre-deceased her in January of 2007. She is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Moran and her husband Robert of Holden and Andrea Vickstrom and her husband Steven of Worcester; a sister, Rita Hebert of South Grafton; nine adored grandchildren, Tony, David, Andrew, Kelly, Daniel, Stephanie, Kristina, Jennifer, and Adam; seven great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. A sister, Alma Amato, pre-deceased. Sophie was born in Worcester, daughter of James and Rose M. (Perri) Gentile, and lived in Worcester and Shrewsbury for many years, before moving to Holden. Mrs. Astrella worked as an executive secretary in the auditing department of the former Shawmut Bank, for eighteen years, before retiring in 1982. She was a member of Saint George Roman Catholic Church. Sophie's family would like to thank everyone in the surgical intensiver care unit at Memorial Hospital, for their compassion, kindness, and exceptional care. The funeral for Sophie will be held Wednesday, April 16, from MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Saint George Church, 38 Brattle Street, Worcester. Interment will follow in Saint John's Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, April 15, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
