Samuel Damato

September 12, 1935 — July 10, 2008

Samuel R. "Sam" Damato, 72, of Worcester died Thursday, July 10th in the Umass Memorial Healthcare- Memorial campus. Sam leaves a son, Samuel M. Damato of Worcester; four siblings, his twin Nancy Rossi, Antoinette Scola, and Charles Damato all of Worcester, and William Damato of North Grafton; a life long friend Richard Pierce of Worcester; many nieces and nephews. A brother Peter and two sisters, Laura Damato and Mary Germain pre deceased him. Sam was born in Skene, Mississippi, son of Samuel and Philomena (Gerardi) Damato. He was a U.S. Marines during the Korean War and has lived here all his life. Sam was a baker all his life. He worked for such places as Widoff's, Gentiles and Mattero's on Franklin. He once owned and operated D'Amico's Bakery on Shrewsbury St. A funeral mass will be held Monday, July 14th at 10:00 am in St Stephen's Church, 357 Grafton St. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the University Commons LTC, 378 Plantation St. Worcester 01605.
