Roland E. Raymond, Sr., 94, of Grafton, formerly of Millbury and Orient Street in Worcester, passed away Monday, June 16, 2008, in his home, surrounded by his loving family. His wife of sixty-six years, Catherine E. (Howard) Raymond, passed away in January of 1999. He is survived by four sons, Richard Raymond of Saratoga, Florida, Robert Raymond of Millbury, Douglas Raymond of Millbury and David Raymond of Princeton; five daughters, Jean Banks and Ruth Banks both of Grafton, Maureen DiPadua of Petersham, MaryJane Hamilton of Grafton, and Janice McQuade of Millbury; thirty seven grandchildren, fifty one great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Three sons, Roland Raymond, Jr. Thomas Raymond, and Roger Raymond, as well as two daughters, Norma Raymond and Joan Raymond, and a great grandson, Tyler Hamiton, pre-deceased him. Roland was born in Winchendon, son of the late William A. and Mary O. (LaCrosse) Raymond, and lived in Worcester most of his life, before moving to Millbury and Grafton. Mr. Raymond was a railroad engineer for the New Haven, Penn Central, and Conrail Railroad Companies, before retiring in 1974. He was a member of Saint Stephen's Church in Worcester, and was a member of the United Transportation Union. A private funeral for Roland will be held Friday, June 20, from MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of The Assumption Church, 10 Waters Street, Millbury. Interment will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Private calling hours will be held Thursday, June 19, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of the donors choice.
