Robert V. Samara, 90, of Worcester, founder of Samara Auto Sales, a generous, kind, caring and giving person, passed away peacefully, February 4th 2008 in the Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family. Born in Leominster, on August 7th, 1917, a son of the late Joseph and Charlotte (Merhige) Samara. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and has lived in Worcester most of his life. His wife and partner of 62 years Janet (Haffty) Samara passed away in 2003. Robert is survived by his two sons, Joseph K. Samara and his wife Ann Marie of Grafton, Ronald R. Samara and his former wife Sharon B. of Worcester; a daughter, Brenda K. Troy of North Grafton; one brother, George Samara of Shrewsbury; a sister, Lorice Senno in Rhode Island; seven grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Russell and Albert Samara pre deceased him. Robert founded and served as President of Samara Auto Sales from the early 1960's until his son assumed the company in 1984. He previously founded and served as president of Economy Distributors. Robert volunteered his time serving the needs of patients at the Christopher House in Worcester for several years. He was a member of St George Orthodox Cathedral, its men's club and the Aleppo Temple of the Shiners. Robert was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family, Wednesday, February 6th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday, February 7th from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in St George Orthodox Cathedral, 30 Anna St. A funeral service will be held Thursday, February 7th at 10:00 a.m. A trisagion service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday; Burial next to his wife will be in Hope Cemetery.
