Raphael "Ray" Merly, 51, of Isabela Puerto Rico formerly of Worcester, a retired Worcester Firefighter passed away Friday June 13th in Puerto Rico. Raphael leaves behind his only beloved son, Michael J. Merly; and his former spouse Marie (Moore) Merly both of Leominster; three brothers, Jose Merly and his wife Esther and Angel Merly all of Worcester; Ronnie Cotto and his wife Heather of New York; Three sisters, Carmen Webb of Worcester, Candida Lemanski of Clinton, Maria Quiles and her husband Angelo of Puerto Rico. Many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Ray's mother Maria (Arroyo) Merly and his brother, Juan Merly both pre deceased him. Raphael was born November 11, 1956, in Cayey, Puerto Rico, lived many years in Worcester before moving back to Puerto Rico in 2003. Ray was employed as a Fire Fighter for the City of Worcester, stationed in the Park Ave, Fire House Engine 10, before retiring due to illness. Ray enjoyed to camp, and fish but most of all he enjoyed his family and friends who will miss him dearly. The funeral will be held Saturday, June 21st from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Joan of Arc church, 570 Lincoln St. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, June 20th in the funeral home.
