M. Patricia Gibson

M. Patricia (McWhirter) Gibson, 73, of Shrewsbury, formerly of Milton passed away peacefully, Tuesday March 18th in her home. Patricia is survived by her husband, of 41 years, F. Warren Gibson; her beloved children, Kathryn Gibson-Torres and her husband Luis of Shrewsbury; Paul A. Gibson and his wife Lisa of Dartmouth; two brothers, John S. McWhirter and his wife Sandy of Milton and Robert E. McWhirter MD, of Mitchell, South Dakota; five cherished grandchildren, Alysa, Maya, Andres, Ella and Will; many nieces and nephews. Pat was born in Boston, daughter of Stanley B. and Mary A. (Hennessy) McWhirter. She graduated from St. Gregory High School in Dorchester in 1952, the Boston City Hospital School of Nursing in 1955, and earned her Bachelors degree in Nursing from Boston College in 1958. She was a fifty year resident of Milton, where she raised her family, until moving to Shrewsbury seven years ago Patricia worked as a Registered Nurse, over 30 years, for such medical facilities as Boston City Hospital, Milton Healthcare and retiring from South Shore Elder Services in Braintree. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend whose enjoyment was celebrated in the company of her family she loved so much. Pat was a member of St Mary of the Hills Church in Boylston, the Massachusetts Nurse Association and the Boston City Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association. Her Celebration of Life funeral will be held Tuesday, March 25th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. Mary of the Hills Church, 630 Cross St. Boylston. Burial will be in Mt View Cemetery, Shrewsbury. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family, Monday March 24th from 5 pm to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
