Melena E. (Curnin) Palmer, 83, of Worcester, formerly of Crowningshield RD. passed away Friday, December 21st in St. Vincent Hospital. Melena's husband James J. Palmer passed away in 1985. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Irene A. Pietrowicz and her husband Paul of Worcester; Her two cherished granddaughters, Susan E. Grant and her husband Stephen L. of Randolph, Lynn A. Sawiski and her husband Daniel J. Sawiski Jr., of Plymouth; two adored great grandsons, Ian Preston Grant and Ryan David Sawiski; a brother, Thomas J. Curnin of Worcester; two god daughters, Margaret E. Curnin of Holden and Nancy M. Cox of Sutton; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A brother, Robert C. Curnin pre deceased her. She was born in Worcester; her parents were the late, James T. and Elizabeth L. (Parent) Curnin and has lived here all her life. ' Melena worked more than 28 years as Bookkeeper for the late Norman L. Sharfman before retiring in 1986. After retirement Melena worked part-time for P.L.Rider Company until the time of her death. Melena was a member of St. Stephen's Church. She was also a member, secretary and treasurer of the Spencer Ladies Group, and a Volunteer at the Ecotarium in Worcester and the Ascension Parish Bingo nights. The funeral will be held Friday, December 28th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME, 370 Plantation St with a Mass at 9:45 a.m. in St. Stephen's Church, 357 Grafton St. Burial will be next to her husband in Notre Dame Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family Thursday, December 27th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
