Maurice R. "Moe" Garofoli, 81, of Worcester passed away Saturday, July 12th 2008 in the University of Massachusetts Hospital surrounded by his devoted family. Moe is survived by his beloved wife and partner of 58 years, Dorothy P. (Pugliese) Garofoli; his devoted three children, Paul R. Garofoli and his wife Pina of Worcester; Sylvia R. Shays and her husband James of East Brookfield, and Rosemarie Garofoli of 11 Suffolk St; a brother, John Garofoli of Shrewsbury; three sisters, Isabelle Lysik of Paxton, Lucy Moynihan of Shrewsbury and Lois Lehair in Arizona; nine grandchildren, James, Robert, Joseph, Christine, Daniel, Michael, Gina, Melinda and Dawn; eleven great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Three sisters, Martha, Frances, Theresa and Annie pre deceased him. He was born in Worcester; his parents were the late Donato and Maria (Consiglio) Garofoli. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and has lived here al his life. Maurice worked as a truck driver for the City of Worcester, many years before retiring. He previously drove a truck 23 years for the former Arduini Company. He was a member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church. A founding member of the Columbus Civic Association, A member of the Eastside Post 201, American Legion and the Pope John XXIII Council K of C. Moe enjoyed playing cards, the Red sox and the Patriots. The funeral will be held Wednesday, July 16th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry St. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 15th in the funeral home.
