Mary C. Sweeney, 99, formerly of Carver, MA who would celebrate her 100th birthday on May 26th passed away peacefully, Monday, May 5th 2008 in the Notre Dame Long term Care center. Mary was born May 26th 1908, in Boston, a daughter of John H. and Mary J. (Russell) Sweeney. She attended Boston Public Schools, lived many years in Boston and Carver before moving to Worcester. Mary is survived by her devoted four sisters, Agnes V. Dervan with whom she lived in Carver, Alice Dwyer and her husband William all of Worcester, Catherine Walenty in Arizona, Pauline Burns of West Harwich; a brother Arthur T. Sweeney in England. many cherished and caring nieces and nephews. Two brothers, John and Edward Sweeney pre deceased her. Mary worked many years as an office assistant for Boston City Hospital before retiring. Mary loved crafts, over the years she made many dolls and Christmas ornaments. Mary also loved to travel and be with her family and friends. A funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday, May 8th at 10:00 a.m. in The Notre Dame Assisted Living Chapel, 555 Plantation St Worcester. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family, Wednesday, May 7th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Notre Dame Long Term Care, 559 Plantation St. Worcester, 01605.
