Mary Ann M. (Alfego) Nivala, 64, of Worcester passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 6th 2008 in the St. Vincent Hospital after an illness. Mary Ann's husband of 36 years, John W. "Jack" Nivala passed away in 2001. She is survived by her devoted brothers and sisters; Anthony A. Alfego, Jr., and his wife Mary of Rutland, Palma M. "Pam" Gullbrand and her husband Donald of Worcester;. Lorraine M. Caledonia and her husband Richard of Franklin, Joseph J. Alfego and his wife Maryann of Shrewsbury; nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. Born in Worcester, Mary Ann was a daughter of the late Anthony A. Alfego, Sr. and Carmella (Santoro) Alfego. She graduated from Worcester Girls Trade and has lived here all her life. Mary Ann worked for the City of Worcester, school department over 19 years before retiring in 2002. She was a gentile caring person, who enjoyed sharing time with and around her family and friends. A Funeral service will be held Saturday, February 9th at 10:30 a.m. in The MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. A period of visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service in the funeral home.
