Mary E. (Gannon) Gleason, 83, of Melville Street in Worcester, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren on Saturday, March 1, 2008, in UMass Hospital. Her husband, Worcester Fire Department Lieutenant, Raymond C. Gleason, pre-deceased her in 1975. Mary is survived by her loving family including two daughters, Janet M. Kunigonis and her husband Peter A. Kunigonis of Worcester, Mary E. Gozdur and her husband David Gozdur of Holden; three sons, Worcester Fire Inspector Raymond J. Gleason and his wife Michelle Gleason of Leicester, Michael F. Gleason and his wife Angela Gleason of Rutland, and Kevin B. Gleason of Worcester; a brother, Laurence J. Gannon and his wife Patricia of Shrewsbury; two sisters, Jean M. Taylor and her husband Richard of Spencer, and Laurel G. Johnson and her husband Alfred of Holden; a sister in law, Carlene Gannon of Worcester; a brother in law Barney Murphy of Worcester; eight grandchildren, Michael P. Kunigonis, Mathew R. Gleason, Noelle P. Gleason, Shannen M. Gleason, Christopher D. Gozdur, Michelle E. Gleason, Kelsey M. Kunigonis, and Emily R. Gleason; many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by a brother, James H. Gannon, as well as three sisters, Adele I. Sullivan, Ann S. Nelson, and Elsie Geraldine Murphy. She was born in Worcester, daughter of the late James J. and Elsie G. (Spurr) Gannon, and was a 1942 graduate of Worcester Commerce High School, and has lived here all her life. Mary was a member of Saint Bernard Church. She was devoted to her children and grandchildren. She always had a pot of coffee brewing and a tender ear for listening, whenever someone needed a friend to listen. The funeral for Mary will be held Wednesday, March 5, from MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Saint Bernard's Church, 228 Lincoln Street, Worcester. Interment will follow in Saint John's Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, March 4, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
