Mary A. "Nonnie" (Turco) Fortunato, 88, formerly of 5 Liscomb St. passed away peacefully, Monday January 7, 2008 in St. Mary Health Care after a long illness. Mary was born in Worcester, one of eleven children of the late Joseph and Bombina (Terranova) Turco. She was a devoted wife and partner for 65 years of the late Rocco S. Fortunato who passed away in 2005. Mary is survived by her beloved three daughters, Elaine David and her husband Paul of Worcester, Rosellen Roy and her husband Michael of Oxford, MaryAnn Lavin and her husband Kevin of Holden; six adored grandchildren, Chris Roy, Kyle and Jason David, Nicole, Elyse and Kelly Lavin; seven great grandchildren; three sisters, Raffaela "Rae" Bogigian of Peabody, Margaret "Peg" Simoncini, and Dorothy Locantore both of Worcester; many nieces, nephews, and friends; Mary was predeceased by her brothers, Henry and Charlie Turco, her sisters, Christine Masiello, Nancy Giacobba, Yolanda Consiglio, Ann Porcaro and Rose Ricardi. Mary was a graduate of Commerce High School. She worked at St. Agnes Guild, and retired from work at the Belmont Home. She previously worked at Memorial Hospital, and Edward Street School. She was a life long member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel-St Anne Parish, its Golden Years, the Bishop Wright Assembly of the Catholic Daughters of America, the Maria S.S. Addelorata Society and was once a group leader for the Camp Fire Girls at Our Lady of Mt Carmel. Mary was a kindhearted and generous woman. She lovingly cared for her family, friends and even people she did not know. Everyone she came across in her life was welcomed with open arms. Mary had a genuine zeal for life and enjoyed cooking, dancing, bowling, and shopping. All who knew her will never forget her contagious smile and her gracious charm. The funeral will be held Friday, January 11th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry St. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Thursday, January 10th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St Mary Health Care Alzheimer's Unit, 20 Queen St Worcester. The Fortunato family is grateful for all the care and devotion she received from St, Mary Health Care. Those who truly loved her had her love reciprocated tenfold.
