Mary A. (Freeman) Deschenes-Whiton, 81, of Heritage Lane in Boylston, formerly of Southborough, passed away Monday, January 21, 2008, surrounded by her loving family in Memorial Hospital. She is survived by two daughters Joyce Simonis and her husband Francis J. Simonis of East Harwich, and Darlene Johnson and her husband Richard A. Johnson of Plymouth; their father, Albert Deschenes passed away in 2001. Mary is also survived by a sister, Dorothy Martin of Worcester; five grandchildren, Denise Burroughs, Michael Simonis, Ronald Fahlbeck, Karyn Connors, and Kevin Fahlbeck; six great grandchildren, Nicholas Bauer, Cassidy Bauer, Shaina Simonis, Kylie, Collin, and Brodie Connors; nieces and nephews. A sister, Eleanor Moreau as well as three brothers, James, George, and Paul Freeman all pre-deceased her. Mary was born in Worcester, daughter of Ernest and Etta (McGrath) Freeman, and grew up in Worcester and Boylston. Mary shared her loving care as a nurses aide for over twenty years at Westborough State Hospital, before she retired in 1988. She had previously worked for Fenwall Lab-Baxter Medical. She was a member of Saint Mary of The Hills Church in Boylston and the Retired State, County, and Municipal Employees Association, and served as union steward while working at the state hospital. The funeral for Mary will be held Friday, January 25 from MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Worcester, with a Mass at 11:30 in Saint Mary of The Hills Church, 630 Cross Street, Boylston. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Boylston. Calling hours will be held Friday morning from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. in the funeral home, prior to departing for church.
