Margaret E. "Peg" Direnzo, 85, of Worcester, passed away peacefully, Sunday, May 11th 2008 in the St Vincent Hospital surrounded by her devoted family, Margaret's husband of 57 years, Joseph Direnzo passed away in 2001. She is survived by her cherished daughters, Judy Greene and her husband Kenneth, and Margaret A. "Peggy" Buffone all of Worcester, nine adored grandchildren, Joseph and Richard Direnzo, Laurie LaRiviere, Cathy Toscano, Linda Barbato, Charles Smith, Kimberly DiGioia, Christina Burdulis, and Vincent Buffone; 13 great grandchildren; a nephew Harry Lyons, III, many other relatives and friends. A daughter, Barbara A. Direnzo-Smith, A son, Richard Direnzo, a son in law Vincent Buffone, a granddaughter Jennifer Lee Buffone and her brother Harry Lyons, Jr. all pre deceased her. Peg was born in Floral Park, Long Island, NY daughter of Harry K. Lyons, Sr. and Mildred A. (DeMott) Lyons. She has lived here more than 64 years. Margaret worked many years as bookkeeper for Direnzo Brothers Concrete Company before retiring. During World War II, Peggy was literally "Rosie the Riveter" for Grumman aviation in New York. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Peggy most enjoyed the company of her being with and around family and friends. The funeral will be held Thursday, May 15th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME and CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Burial will be next to her husband in St. John's Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 14th in the funeral home.
