Kathleen Barbara Chalifoux, 23, of New York City, formerly of Mile Hill Road in Boylston, passed away unexpectedly, Friday, January 4, 2008, in New York. Katie, as she was know to her family and friends, leaves her parents, Robert and Janice (Keefe) Chalifoux of Boylston; two sisters, Jessica Chalifoux and her husband Michael Cummings of Brooklyn, New York, and Linette Magalhaes and her husband Sergio of Clinton; two brothers, Dana O'Keefe and his wife Doris of Braintree, and Joel Chalifoux and his fiancé Krystal Dimatteo of Boylston; her maternal grandparents, Carmen Deffely of Boylston and Michael O'Keefe of Marshfield; three nieces, Casey, Saige and Vivian; three nephews, Justin, Matthew, and Finnias; her longtime boyfriend, Phil Chevalier of West Boylston and New York City; many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Katie was born in Worcester, and grew up in Boylston. She recently graduated from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York, and moved to New York City this past September. Katie graduated from Tahanto Regional High School in Boylston, where she was an outstanding young lady. There she was active in the school's athletic program as a member of the softball, soccer, and basketball teams. She was also a class officer, and in the music program, playing both the piano and clarinet. Her affinity for governmental relations started in high school by participating in the Model United Nations Program, and continued with the Skidmore College Model European Union Club. While at Skidmore she majored in International Affairs and minored in Government. She studied for a semester in Paris, at Sorbonne University and American Business School. She traveled to Prague with the European Union Club. Katie was working as a teacher for Wild Blue, an enrichment program for children on the upper east side of Manhattan. Her working and intern experiences took her from being a waitress at T.G.I. Friday's and Bertucci's at the Solomon Pond Mall, to interning with the production staff for the news magazine program "Chronicle", on WCVB Channel 5. She had also worked for Environmental Fire Protection in Marlborough. She was fortunate to have had the experience of world travel, having been to The Czech Republic, Spain, France, Ireland, and throughout the United States and Hawaiian Islands. Katie's funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, January 9, at 10 a.m. in Saint John the Evangelist Church, 80 Union Street, Clinton. (please proceed directly to church on Wednesday morning). Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Boylston. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, January 8, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester.
