Joseph Circo

Joseph L. Circo, 87, of Worcester, passed way Sunday, April 6, 2008 in Saint Vincent Hospital. He leaves his wife of 62 years, Eva (Redfield) Circo; three daughters, Eva Roettger and her husband Lance of Southbridge, Deborah Waple and her husband Robert of Marlborough, and Priscilla Erben and her husband Kent of Colorado; a son, Scott Bell and his wife Bonnie of Barre; two sisters, Frances Giammarino in New York, and Mary Holmes in Pennsylvania; fifteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A daughter, Joanne Oberist, pre-deceased him in 2004. He was also pre-deceased by two brothers, Paul and Miles Circo, and three sisters, Rose DiPilato, Carmella Mancuso, and Anna Gagne. Joseph was born in New Haven, Connecticut, the son of Vincenzo and Giovannina (Ferandino) Circo, and grew up in White Plains, New York, before settling in Worcester. Mr. Circo served in The United States Army, during World War II serving with the 45th Division 157th Infantry in Sicily and Italy; and was awarded the Purple Heart and two bronze service stars. Joseph worked as a machinist for over thirty-two years at Standard Paper Goods, before he retired. He was a member of Saint Matthew Episcopal Church, a life long member of the Disabled American Veterans. Joe enjoyed building doll houses and was an avid bowler. The funeral for Joseph will be held Saturday, April 12, at 9:30 a.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Interment will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours will be held Friday, April 11, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
