John F. McNamara, 77, of Shrewsbury, passed away, Wednesday, June 11, 2008 in Brigham and Women's Hospital. He leaves his wife of 54 years, Maria (D'Andrea) McNamara; four sons, Kevin McNamara of Worcester, Brian McNamara and his fiancé Lisa Swenson of Sandwich, Timothy McNamara of Uxbridge and John McNamara Jr. of West Palm Beach, FL; a daughter, Maureen A. Wilczynski and her husband Scott of Shrewsbury; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. John was born in Worcester, son of the late Martin & Bridget A. (Murphy) McNamara and he graduated from Saint Peters High School in 1949. During the Korean War, John served his nation proudly in the United States Navy. He worked forty three years for the Wyman Gordon Company as a machinist and served as a union official in various capacities. He retired in 1997. He was an avid soccer fan; enjoyed his family and social activities of all types and was a die hard Red Sox and Patriots fan. John's funeral will be held Saturday, June 14th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 A.M. in Saint Mary's Church, 20 Boston Road, Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in Saint John's Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours will be held on Friday, June 13th from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. in the funeral home.
