James D. "Jim Leo" Tomaiolo, 82, formerly of Shamrock St. died peacefully Tuesday April 8, 2008 in the UMASS Medical Center University Campus. James is survived by a son Franklin Tomaiolo of Florida, a sister Margaret Fortunato and her husband Joseph, a granddaughter Andrea Giannino of Worcester, his former wife Dorothy (Shea) Tomaiolo, and many nephews and nieces, and grand nephews and nieces. Jimmy was predeceased by three brothers Edward Tomaiolo, and Henry and Nicholas Tomaiolo, and six sisters Mary and Josephine Tomaiolo, Phyllis Palumbo, Michelina Cariglia, and Genevieve Pugliese and Philomena Tomaiolo. James was born in Worcester son of the late Michele and Maddalena (Ricci) Tomaiolo and lived here most of his life. James was a graduate of Worcester Boys Trade School, and served as a Corporal during WW II in the United States Marines. James worked for the City Of Worcester Parks Department as a head caretaker at the Belmont Home, and also at East Park. Jimmy was an Entertainer for many years and had his own Orchestra and played throughout the East Coast. He played in many area nightclubs including the Chez Ami with the Jimmy Rivers Trio.He was also a Licensed Real Estate Broker at the Quiry Associates for Several years. Jimmy was a life member of Our Lady Of Mt. Carmel-St Ann Church, The Italian American Post #3, The Disabled American Veterans, and the Worcester Musicians Local # 143. The funeral will be held Friday from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 370 Plantation St.with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:30AM in Our Lady Of Mt Carmel- St Ann Church 24 Mulberry St. Calling hours in the funeral home will be held on Thursday from 5-8PM. Intermment will be in St. John's Cemetery.
