Gwendolyn O. Bailey, 93, of Worcester, passed away Sunday, January 27, 2008, in University Commons. She is survived by her two loving sons, Walter S. Bailey of Plainfield, New Jersey, and Paul F. Bailey and his wife Carmen of Spencer; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, including Dorothy Wilkins of Worcester. A son Robert "Bart" Bailey, Two brothers, Benjamin and Walter, as well as a sister, Dorothy Bailey, all pre-deceased her. She was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Walter S. and Emma (Chisolm) Bailey, and has lived here all her life. Gwendolyn retired in 1990 as a supervisor in the dietary department of Worcester State Hospital, where she had worked for thirty-five years. She was a member of John Street Baptist Church. She sang in The Burley Holiday Choral Group, and was a generous volunteer for many local organizations. She was a member of the Retired State, County, and Municipal Employees Association. The funeral for Gwendolyn will be held Friday, February 1st, at 11 a.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Interment will follow in Hope Cemetery, Worcester. A calling hour will be held Friday morning from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. in the funeral home, prior to services.
