Gerald Magaw

Gerald "Gerry " Magaw, 79, of Worcester died peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, November 17, 2007. Gerry leaves behind his devoted wife and partner of 50 years, Nancy M. (Clark) Magaw; his daughters, Sandra "Sammy" Magaw and her fiancé Raymond C. Sherwin of North Oxford, Geraldine Beeso of Worcester, and Leona Goad of Arkansas; a daughter-in-law, Susan Magaw of Webster; one stepson, Steven Spaulding in Maine; two brothers, Charles Magaw of Leominster and Richard Magaw of Webster; 14 grandchildren; many nephews, nieces, and life long friends. Two sons, Timothy J. Magaw and Paul Magaw, both passed away in 2006. He will be deeply missed and forever loved by his family and friends. Gerry was born and raised in Winslow, Maine, a son of the late Perley and Helen (Buzzel) Magaw, and has lived in Worcester over 50 years. Gerry worked more than 12 years as a corrections officer for the Worcester County Sheriffs Department retiring in 1992 as a Lieutenant. He previously worked as a truck driver for the Teamsters union local 170, driving for Bermans Transportation. Gerry was a very loyal Red Sox fan and enjoyed a good card game. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Teamsters union local 170, the Auburn Lodge of Elks, the Worcester Eagles Club, the Brown Square Civic and the Eastside Improvement Club. Gerry was blessed with a caring and committed physician, Dr. Jon Trister, and two special nurses Tammy and Linda. All three, went truly above and beyond in their care for him. The Magaw family will forever be grateful for how they brought light into his final days. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 21st at 11:00 a.m. in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. Calling Hours will be held Tuesday, November 20th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 30 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01720.
