George F. Silaidos,86, of Worcester died peacefully Tuesday January 22, 2008 In the St Francis Home. George is survived by his wife of 59 years Mary (Ciccarelli) Silaidos, two sons George J, Silaidos, and Theodore R. "Teddy" Silaidos, a daughter Bernadette M Silaidos all of Worcester, and many nieces and nephews. A sister Nikolitsa "Niki" Silaidos-Stepp predeceased him George was born in Worcester son of the late Theodore and Theodora (Kartsona) Silaidos And lived here all his life. He was a graduate of Commerce High School, and served in the U. S. Navy on the USS Wasp during WW11. He received the Asiatic Pacific Medal with two stars, and the Philipine Liberation medal with two stars. George was a foreman in the Shipping and receiving department at Morgan Construction Company for forty three years before he retired. George was a long time member of Our Lady Of Mt. Carmel-St Ann Church, and was a member of their Golden Years Club. He was also a member of the East Side Improvement Club, and the East Side Post American Legion # 201. George was a coach for many years for the Joe Dimaggio League, and also at several teams at East Park. He was an avid bowler, and enjoyed taking trips to the Casino.He really enjoyed a good day at the Track. He will be missed by his family and friends. George's funeral will be held Saturday from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 370 Plantation St. with a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00AM in Our Lady Of Mt Carmel-St Ann Church 24 Mulberry St. Calling hours in the funeral home are 5-8PM on Friday. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Flowers may be sent or contributions can be made to The St Francis Home 101 Plantation St Worcester, Ma.01604. Members of the East Side Post#201 will meet at 7PM to perform their ritual.
