George H. McGuirk, 77, of Worcester passed away one day before his 78th birthday, Friday July 11, 2008 in the Knollwood Long term care facility, surrounded by family. George's wife of 56 years Margaret Mary (Jiardino) McGuirk passed away May 20th. George is survived by three daughters, Donna Nelson and her husband Steven of Windham, NH, Linda Murphy and her husband Joseph of Sutton, Deborah Gerardi and her husband Joseph of Worcester; a son, George McGuirk and his wife MaryBeth of Worcester; eleven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. A sister, Jacqueline Burke pre deceased her. George was born in Worcester, a son of George and Theresa (Foisy) McGuirk. He attended St Stephen's High School and has lived here all his life. George worked more than 30 years as a machinist for the George Meyers Company before retiring. He was a member of St. Stephen's Church. George was a member of the Worcester Lodge of Elks. He was an accomplished bowler and member of many area bowling leagues. At onetime George played Softball, baseball. The funeral will be held Tuesday, July 15th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Stephen's Church, 357 Grafton St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family, Monday, July 14th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
