Elaine D. (DeMarco) de Araujo, 55 of Worcester died peacefully July 6, 2008 in the University Commons, After a battle with cancer. Elaine is survived by her devoted son Giovanni DeMarco and his wife Brandy of Worcester, her mother Miriam (Lanson) DeMarco of Fairfield CT. formerly of Worcester; two loving sisters Donna M Cameron and her husband Ralph of Billerica, and Karen J. Felitto and her husband Richard of Fairfield Connecticut, and two nephews Jason and Eric Felitto, and uncles, aunts, cousins, and many friends. Elaine was born in Worcester daughter of the late Salvatore DeMarco and lived in Worcester all her life. She was a graduate of Burncoat High School, and earned her Bachelors and Masters Degree's in education at Worcester State College. Elaine was a teacher for the Worcester Public Schools for many years, and served as the Principal at Harlow Street School and also Lincoln Street School. She was a long time member of St. Christopher's Church. Among her many memberships Elaine was a member of the Worcester Principal Association, The Massachusetts Teachers Association, The MESPM, and the Harvard Principals Association. Elaine was a dedicated educator and will be missed dearly by her family, students, and many friends. She enjoyed baking and loved going to the beach. Elaine's funeral will be held Thursday from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 370 Plantation St with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00AM in Saint Christopher Church 950 West Boylston St. Calling hours in the funeral home are from 4-8PM on Wednesday. Burial will be in Saint John's Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Levine Cancer Center care of UMASS Memorial 119 Belmont St Worcester MA.01605.
