Doris L. (Quarelli) Mathieu, 86, of Worcester, passed away Saturday, June 14, 2008 in St Vincent Hospital surrounded by her family. Doris is survived by her beloved husband and partner of 60 years Ernest "Ernie" Mathieu; her three devoted children; Joan D. Smolen and her husband Joseph of Dudley, Carol A. Gendron and her husband David of Shrewsbury, Bruce E. Mathieu and his wife Georgiana of Worcester; six cherished grandchildren Lynne, Jeff, Jennifer, Craig, Daniel and Nicole; two sisters, Irene Louis and June Russo both of Millbury, many nieces and nephews. A sister, Gloria Hedstrom pre deceased her. Doris was born in Worcester; her parents were the late John J. and Gladys (Murray) Quarelli. She grew up in Millbury, graduated from Millbury High School, worked for Norton Company until she left to raise her family. She has lived in Worcester most of her life. Doris, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, will forever be remembered for her kind, loving and unselfish ways. She belonged to Our Lady of Lourdes Church and was an active member as well as past president of The West Boylston, VFW Post 6907 Ladies Auxiliary. She loved to travel, cook, sew and especially enjoyed her younger grandchildren Danny and Nicole. The funeral will be held Tuesday, June 17th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1290 Grafton St. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Tuesday morning from 9 am to 10 am prior to the funeral.
