Anzo Joseph Tonelli, 83, of Shrewsbury passed away, Saturday, March 15, 2008 in UMASS Memorial Healthcare. He is survived by his beloved wife of twenty-nine years, Jacqueline (Fisk) Tonelli; five children, Deborah R. Tonelli of Shrewsbury, Charron Schonborg and her husband Lee of Shrewsbury, J. Steven Tonelli DMD, and his wife Peggy of Andover, Kristin Gazzillo and her husband Jim of Sunrise, Florida and Mark A. Tonelli and his wife Ginger of Broomfield, Colorado; two stepdaughters, Eileen Guldstrand and her husband Gary of Redondo Beach, California and Joanne Leedy and her husband Gordon of Amherst, New Hampshire; two sisters Nancy Zecco of Holden and Rose DiTerlizzi of Shrewsbury; sixteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his late wife of twenty-five years Charlotte R. Tonelli. Anzo was born in Mondolfo, Italy on February 27, 1925, son of the late Joseph and Franca (Riga) Tonelli. He was a graduate of the Worcester Boys Trade, attended Wentworth Institute of Technology and has lived in Shrewsbury for over fifty years. He served in the United States Army, during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds suffered in battle. Mr. Tonelli was a plastering contractor for his own family business, Joseph Tonelli & Son., retiring in 1993. He was a life long member of Saint Anne Church and for the Pleasant Valley County Club. He belonged to the Columbus Civic Association, East Side American Legion Post 201, and was one of the original founders of the Indian Meadows County Club. Anzo had many hobbies, with golfing, skiing and fishing just being a few. He enjoyed life to the fullest and will be missed dearly. Anzo's funeral will be held Wednesday, March 19th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, with a Mass at 10:00 A.M. in Saint Anne Church, 130 Boston Tpke, Shrewsbury. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, March 18th, from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. in the funeral home.
