Adelaida C. (Colon) Morales, 88, the matriarch of a family with almost 300 descendants passed away peacefully Friday, January 7th, 2022, with loved ones gathered at her side.
Born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, the daughter of Jose Colon and Matilda Rodriguez. Raised in Puerto Rico, Adelaida immigrated to Worcester at the age of seventeen. She married Jobo Morales and began a life raising her eleven children here with love, guidance, heritage, and family until 1988 when her husband Jobo left her side. She continued to make sure her family succeeded. She raised as a widow, not only her children, but guided and helped raise her grand and great grandchildren with her wisdom and loving efforts. Her family always came first no matter what.
Adelaida worked a good portion of her life for the Franklin Plastics Corporation as a machine operator before retiring.
Adelaida is survived by her eleven children, Joanna Morales-Bradford and her husband Eric, Salvatore and Edwin Morales, Miriam, Sonia, Adelaida (Biro) and Elizabeth Morales all of Worcester; grand, great grand and great, great grandchildren totaling over 290 descendants, including Imaiya and Dejhaun Ford, Jose Reyes, Jazmín Rosa, Robert Morales, and Theresa Calderon; nieces, nephews, and extended family members both here and in Puerto Rico. In addition to her husband and parents, four children, Jobo Jr, Araminta, Antonio, and Theresa, all predeceased her.
Adelaida, was a member of St Paul’s Cathedral. As nicknamed the Queen of her family, everyone that entered her home was welcome, had to eat something, was subjected to her comic relief, and most notably was always given a nickname by her. She enjoyed shopping, flea markets, gardening, and music, including Michael Jackson and Elvis her favorites.
Memorial calling hours will be held, Sunday January 16 from 1 pm to 3 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. A prayer service will be held at 3 pm. Burial will be private.
