Adelbert "Del" Cyr

Adelbert C. “Del” Cyr,  85,  a longtime Worcester resident, passed away Saturday, October 23, 2021, surrounded by the family he loved. 

Del was born in Van Buren Maine, the son of Abel and Gertrude (Thibodeau) Cyr.  Raised and educated in Maine, Del enlisted in the U.S. Army during the early years of Vietnam, stationed at Ft Devens.  There he met the “Love of his Life” Constance J. “Connie”  Clark, they married in November of 1957 and Del became a resident of Worcester County for the next 64 years raising their family in the Burncoat Area. 

Del worked as a machinist for over 30 years,  He began with the Heald Machine, division of Cincinnati Milacron for 25 years before, accepting a machinist position with Morgan Construction for an additional 5 years before retiring.   Not one to fully retire, Del then worked part time for the Consumer Auto Parts store on West Boylston Street

He is survived by devoted wife Connie;  three children, Jeffrey M. Cyr and his wife AnnMarie of Worcester, Karen A. Holden and her husband William of Charlton and Wendy S. Connor of Worcester; a brother, James Cyr in Van Buren, Maine and sister, Jean M. Cyr in Brunswick, Maine; nine grandchildren, Jennifer, Jeffrey, Michael , Patrick, Olivia, Gregory, Max, Zachary and Makayla; five great grandchildren, Vivian, Lorenzo, Vera, Lucas and Adam; Many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.   A great grandson, Sebastian Cyr passed away this past July.  

Del was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church, and the Greendale retired men’s club.  Connie and Del, loved to  travel seeing the USA. Del also loved to garden, notably growing roses.  He also found a lot of peace and enjoyment woodworking, building, cornhole boards, picnic tables, wishing wells and bird feeders for family and friends.   In the winter, Del could also be found during snowstorms assisting his neighbors with clearing the driveways and sidewalks with his snowblower.   He had a heart of gold, and bright smile, and would help anyone who needed him.

A period of calling hours will be held Tuesday, October 26, from 8:30 to 10:00 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St, followed by a procession to Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 35 Fales Street where his mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am.  Burial with military honors will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton.  In lieu of flowers memorial remembrances in his name can be made to the Jewish Healthcare Hospice, Salisbury Street Worcester, or the Amyloidosis Foundation,  7151 N. Main St. Ste. 2 Clarkston, MI 48346.

The Cyr family would like to thank the Jewish Healthcare hospice, in particular Mary Garity for the care, comfort, and compassion they showed Del during a difficult time.
