Alice H. Askey, a Keene resident for almost 50 years, died surrounded by family, after a short illness on March 7th, 2025. She was 83 years old. She is survived by her son James Askey and his partner Jackie Thetsy, her daughter Elise Askey and her husband Greg Robillard and their children, Nathan and Jane Robillard, her sister-in-law Mary Jo Hartle and her daughter Sara Wheeler-Smith.
Alice was born on January 22, 1942, in Baltimore, MD. She is preceded by her husband, Bob Askey, her mother Anna Elizabeth Burkett Hartle, her father Charles James Hartle, and her brother James Burkett Hartle.
Alice was educated in Baltimore, MD and received a Master of Education degree from Goucher College. After graduating college, she worked for IBM, training sales staff on the operation of IBM products. She eventually moved to New York City to teach fourth and fifth grade English at a small private school. Alice met her husband, Bob Askey, while living in New York. They were married in 1970 in Nantucket, and soon moved to Marlow, NH to start their family.
After their children, James and Elise, were born they moved to Keene, NH and started an advertising agency called Askey Associates. Alice retired in the year 2000 and was able to spend more time with her children, husband, and beloved dogs. She was an avid reader, enjoyed completing the New York Times crossword, and most of all, winning at any family game night. Her wit and sense of humor were unmatched.
She was an extraordinary wife and mother and was loved by all who knew her.
Private services will be held for the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Monadnock Humane Society are welcome.
