Alice (Vecchio) Duncan, 98, of Roxboro, NC and of Naples, Florida passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 22nd 2023 with her devoted daughter and family gathered at her side.
Alice was born in Worcester, April 6, 1925, the daughter of Pietro and Josephine (Gagliardi) Vecchio. She was raised in Worcester’s Italian neighborhood off Shrewsbury Street, married Bob Duncan, moved to Paxton, where she and Bob raised their daughter, Cheryl, before retiring and moving to Cape Cod and then Naples, Florida. After her husband passed, Alice spent most of her time with Cheryl and her family in North Carolina.
Alice was a hairdresser by trade and along with her husband, they owned and operated Mr. Robert's Chat n Curl beauty salon on Park Avenue for many years before they retired.
She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl A. Mercadante and her life partner, Richard Samia Sr. In addition to her parents and husband, two brothers John (Johnny Radiator) Vecchio, Joseph Vecchio and a sister, Vincenza (Vinnie) Pendergast predeceased her. Alice was very close to all of Richard’s children and considered them her grandchildren. She also leaves Nieces, nephews, and extended family members who fondly called her Miss Alice.
Alice was a member of the First Baptist Church in Naples and formerly the First Baptist Church in Holden. Robert and Alice were very active members of the AA community for more than 37 years, assisting those afflicted return to sobriety. She loved the beaches of Cape Cod and Naples. She was very active in her Church in Naples but also loved to walk through her neighborhood with her friend Pat. She loved to play the piano and shared fond memories with Sandra who shared her love of music. Alice loved making hummus with Adam, but her favorite was when he would take her to McDonald’s for ice cream. She also loved the horses and dogs.
A funeral service for Mrs. Duncan will be held Friday, July 7th, 2023, at 11 a.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Interment will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. A period of gathering with the family will be held from 10 am to the start of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
