Andrew (Andraos) M. Ansara, 85, of Worcester, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away at home surrounded by the ones he loved on Saturday, October 9th, 2021. Andrew was born in Aitah al-Fakhar, Lebanon, the son of Michael and Badia (Dabaghe) Ansara. Raised in Lebanon, Andrew began a career as a contractor, immigrating to the United States in 1965, to be close to his sister, Lee (Leya) Peters, who preceded him. He returned to Lebanon to marry Ann Maalouf before returning to the U.S to start their family. They then began a life of faith, family, and devotion raising their children. Andrew founded and fostered his new construction company for many years, taking pride in every project he accepted. Upon retiring from construction, he and his wife Ann owned and operated Lee’s Bakery. You could often find Andrew making hummus, grilling kabobs, or chatting with customers and friends who fondly referred to him as Andy.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ann; his children, Susan Ansara Abeddy and her husband Antoine, Mary Ansara, Lee Daher (Ansara) and her husband Elias; his grandchildren, Karina, Karim, Isabella, Andrew, Lily, and Emma; a sister, Lidia Assali; many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends both here and in Lebanon. In addition to his parents, his beloved son, Michael, and four siblings, Deeb Ansara, Mary Rizkalla, Lee Peters, and Minerva Houssan, all predeceased him.
In Andrew’s life, his faith and his family came first. He was a member of St. George Orthodox Cathedral. His six grandchildren were the joy of his life and being their “Ghido” was a role he cherished. He spent his life ensuring that everything he did was for the happiness and success of his family, pouring from a generous and overflowing cup that never ran dry. As a man of unwavering faith, his heart radiated love for everyone from his closest family members, to the friends he made wherever he went. He also took great pride in his Lebanese heritage which permeated the home he built for his children, and theirs. He was the rock that his family was built upon and will be missed dearly.
Calling hours will be held from 9 am to 11 am, Thursday, October 14th in St. George Orthodox Cathedral, 30 Anna Street. His funeral service will follow at 11 am. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Andrew’s name can be made to the St. George Orthodox Cathedral endowment fund, 30 Anna Street Worcester, MA 01604. “May his Memory be Eternal” The MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St is honored to assist the family with arrangements.
