Anna (Mitrus) Boyatzi, 91 years old, died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, January 12th at St. Mary’s Nursing Home, Worcester Massachusetts. Anna was born in Permet, Albania; she moved with her parents to Istanbul, Turkey where she married her loving husband, Thomas before coming to the United States. She was a devoted wife to Thomas, and a loving mother to her son, Louis and his wife, Dottie, her daughter Margarita Dempsey and her husband Frank, her two granddaughters, Alexandra Bruneault, her husband Corey and Elena, and her great grandson, Nolan. Anna worked at the Broadway restaurant on Water Street; later, she and her husband Tom became owners of a sandwich shop on Millbury Street and then Boyatzi’s at Holden HIlls. She had many dear friends and her house was always open to family and friends. She was a gracious hostess and her table was always laden with delicious foods. Even though her husband was a decorated chef, Anna was the better cook. There was never any pretense with Anna. She was genuine, kind and strong. Her first priority was always her family and she loved taking care of her husband, children and grandchildren, while her pride and joy was her great grandson, Nolan.
Anna had a tremendous heart and she touched many lives. She was a wonderful friend, in fact she became more like a sister to her closest friends. Anna and her husband Tom became best friends with Kay and Fran Dempsey, her daughter’s in laws. They shared everything; work, holidays, vacations and their love for their children. How lucky we were to have this one big, loving family. She was a born nurturer and it is not surprising that she became a surrogate grandmother to so, so many people.
Anna will be remembered for her beautiful smile, common sense, work ethic, exceptional cooking talent and her devotion to her family and friends
