Anthony Gentile, 99, of Shrewsbury passed away peacefully, Saturday, March 30, 2024.
Anthony was born on June 7, 1924, one of four sons of Italian immigrants, Alfonso, and Alice (DeFalco) Gentile. A member of the greatest generation, Anthony along with his three brothers, joined the U.S. Army serving their country proudly during World War II. Anthony notably served as part of the D-Day invasion, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and the Battle of the Bulge. Upon discharge from the Army and return home, he met and in 1949, married Nancy Lee. They began a life of love, faith and family for 51 years, 44 of which in Shrewsbury before Nancy passed away in November of 2000. Anthony continued to live in the family home until recently. He worked many years for the Heald Machine Corporation as a machinist before retiring.
Anthony is survived by his twin daughters, Marie “Toni” Duclos and her husband Donald of Shrewsbury, and Sandra Gentile of Worcester; a son Stephen Gentile in Colorado; five grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Kristen, Matthew, Courtney, and Andrew; five great grandchildren; Nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Three brothers, Edward Gentile was killed in WW II, Vincent, and Francis Gentile all predeceased him.
Anthony an assuming man, believe that family was everything. He enjoyed the holidays, special occasions, caring for his yard and garden.
Funeral services with Military honors will be held privately. There are no calling hours. Memorial remembrances in his name can be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Way, Memphis TN. The MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street is honored to assist the family with arrangements.
