Anthony Mancini, 75, from Sutton, MA, passed away on December 27, 2019. Tony was married to Valerie T. (Mingolla) Mancini on May 10, 1969. In May 2019, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary surrounded by family and friends at Pleasant Valley Country Club, where they had their wedding reception. Tony is survived by his two daughters, Lisa A. Mancini of Sutton, MA and her significant other Daniel J. Daigle and Beth A. Mancini, of Woonsocket, RI and her significant other Steven J. Lima. He also leaves his two grandchildren, Anthony J. Peare and Julia T. Peare of Sutton, both of whom he adored immensely. In addition, he leaves sisters in-law and a brother in-law, nieces, nephews and a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and many dear friends. He served as a bonus grandparent for so many young children with whom he loved as his own.
Tony was described as a kind, gentle, selfless and loving soul. He was creative and loved working with his hands. In his retirement, he made beautiful jewelry, paintings, drawings and stained glass. He was an avid bird lover, always ensuring that his many bird feeders were full and the birds were as happy as he was. He had a passion for travel and often shared memories of his favorite trips to Italy, Greece and Disney World. He loved nothing more than spending time with others.
He was born to John G. Mancini and Lousie M. (Teso) Mancini on April 18, 1944 in Worcester, MA. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers John F. Mancini of Oxford and Michael J. Mancini of Spencer and his sister Josephine M. Mancini as well as a close aunt, Marguerite Teso.
Tony attended Boys Trade School in Worcester, MA and was a 1963 graduate. He then joined the Local 96 IBEW Apprentice Training Program. From 1964 to 1998, he worked for two contractors, Ostrow Electric and Electric Service and Supply, before retiring. From 1997 to 2004 he was an Instructor for the Apprentice Training Program through Local 96 IBEW. In 2007, he was approved as a continuing education instructor and was honored to continue teaching students through his love of electrical work, especially for Frank Reno Electrical Continuing Education Program.
Tony first joined the Knights of Columbus in May of 1972. In May 2000, he was a founding member of Bishop Flanagan Council #12710 of Millbury/Sutton, serving as its Treasurer for many years. He was also a member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, John Cardinal Wright Assembly, Chapter 1924 in Leicester since 2005. Tony served on a number of committees for the Bishop Flanagan council, most notably as chair of the Charity and Scholarship committees. He actively participated in its fundraisers and was always on hand for special events of service in and around the parishes of St. Marks, St. Brigid, and Our Lady of Assumption.
The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 3, 2020 at 11:30 am at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 356 Boston Road, Sutton, MA. Friends and family are welcome to attend the visitation which will occur prior to Mass from 10am-11:30am, also at St. Mark’s Church. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Notre Dame Academy, 425 Salisbury Street, Worcester, MA 01609 or Bishop Flanagan Council #12710, Knight of Columbus, PO Box 356, Sutton, MA 01590.
