Anthony T. Martello, 87, of Worcester, a retired Worcester Police Officer, passed away on Thursday, August 12, 2021, in the comfort of his home. His loving wife of nearly fifty-six years, Judith A. (Martel) Martello, predeceased him in July 2016.
Anthony is survived by two sisters in law, Sandra Flibbert of Worcester and Joan Swenson of Holden; many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews; dear friends; and neighbors. Anthony was predeceased by five siblings, Sam Palermo, Ann Candela, Rose Festa, Ida Brunelle, and Mary DeMauro. Anthony was born in Worcester, son of the late, John and Angelina (Pacita) Martello, and his lived here all his life. He served his nation proudly in the United States Navy.
Anthony began working for the City of Worcester is the Department of Public Works, he then began a thirty-five year career with the Worcester Police Department, where he was a member of the motorcycle patrol team. He retired in 1999. He was a member of the Columbus Civic Association, the American Legion Post 3, and the International Brotherhood of Police. In his youth he was a competitive handball player. He enjoyed getting together with “the gang” at Dunkin Donuts, where stories and laughter abounded.
Calling Hours for Anthony will be on Tuesday, August 17, from 9 a.m. until his Funeral Service begins at 10:30 a.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Interment beside his loving wife will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
