Arthur R. Longwell, Jr.

November 23, 1961 — October 8, 2021

Arthur R. Longwell, Jr., 59, of Rutland, passed away on Friday, October 8, 2021, at UMass Memorial Hospital with his family by his side.

Art was the beloved husband of Robin L. (Martin) Longwell. Art and Robin were childhood sweethearts and met 39 years ago. On October 15, 1989, they were married and enjoyed 32 years together as husband and wife.

Born on November 23, 1961, Art was the son of the late Arthur R. and Marianne (Joudrey) Longwell, Sr.  He leaves his sister Lisa (Longwell) Ludwig and her husband Larry of Salem, New Hampshire.

Art began his young and active life on the tennis courts at the Worcester Tennis Club. He played tennis alongside his father, winning many titles in both singles and doubles. Art graduated from Saint John's High School in 1979 and later went on as an entrepreneur, dabbling in businesses that fueled his passion for animals and plants. He recently became a licensed auctioneer and started his own antique business. Art was also an excellent truck driver hauling heating oil and gas. All of his customers will miss his charming smile and kind and pleasant demeanor.  He was an incredibly hard-working man, and when he had a moment to relax, he enjoyed being outdoors, spending time in his gardens where he tended to his fig trees and butterfly bushes.

Art was a dedicated husband and father, first and foremost. He treasured his best friend Robin and embraced every moment with her. Together they created a love like no other and built a beautiful family with their two sons, Bobby and Nicholas Longwell, both from Rutland, MA. The four of them created long-lasting memories vacationing on Cape Cod and along the coast of Maine.

Art was well known for being the warm, kind, calm, and brilliant mind of the group. At family parties, he always engaged in thoughtful discussions about current events and politics. All of his nieces and nephews and close family relatives appreciated his realistic view of the world. He was a unifier and a beacon of peace. We will all greatly miss Art for all the love and devotion he had for all of his family.

Art is survived by his mother-in-law, Jacqueline D. Martin of Cape Elizabeth, ME; two sisters-in-law, Lisa Letourneau and her husband Michael of Paxton; Dr. Gina Trachimowicz and her husband Timothy of Cape Elizabeth, ME; a brother-in-law, Ed Martin and his wife Marybeth of Douglas; two nieces and eight nephews.
