PAXTON—It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of John Francis Madaio, 63, of Paxton who died Monday, August 13, 2018 in a tragic car accident.
Attorney John F. Madaio, son of the late Anthony and Anna (DeFosse) Madaio, was born July 5, 1955 in Worcester, Massachusetts. He was a proud graduate of North High School, class of 1973, and the College of the Holy Cross, class of 1977, with a degree in Political Science.
He went on to study law at Loyola University of New Orleans, where he earned his Juris Doctorate. John then worked as a law clerk for Judge Alfred Mansour in the 9th District Court, Alexandria, Louisiana, for a period of time before returning to Massachusetts.
He then began his lengthy Worcester County legal career as an Assistant District Attorney, where he worked for many years in various capacities before entering private practice as a defense attorney. John was a long time, active member of the Worcester Country Bar Association and well-respected in the legal community.
John and his family lived in Paxton for 20 years. A devout husband, father and friend, his faith, family and friendships were the most important things to him. He loved hosting his family for the holidays, especially making his famous meatballs. He also enjoyed traveling, gardening and golfing, particularly when he was having a good day out on the course. John was also his daughters’ biggest sports fan, traveling all over New England to cheer them on at various high school and college games.
John enjoyed many summers on Cape Cod, and especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at Cahoon Hollow Beach and the Wellfleet Beachcomber. John touched many people with his outgoing warm demeanor. He sought to instill in his daughters a zest for life, a commitment to family and friends, and empathy for those less fortunate. Although he was small in stature, he had a large presence. John was known to many as the life of the party.
His beautiful life will be cherished by his wife of 32 years, Susan (Hartnett) Madaio, of Paxton, his daughter Molly Madaio and his future son-in-law Christopher Lauring of Worcester, and his daughter Laura Madaio, of Boston.
He is also survived by his brothers, James, Paul Madaio and his wife Lisa, brothers and sisters-in-law Richard Stano, Mike and Patricia DePatie, Rose and Joe Mandella, Stephen and Helene Hartnett and Paul Hartnett. He leaves nieces Amanda Stano and Aniah Madaio; nephews Daniel Hartnett and Drake Madaio and father-in-law Raymond Hartnett and many dear cousins.
