Barbara A. Dyer Smith

Barbara A. (Kneeland) Dyer Smith, 84, of Worcester, passed away, surrounded by family on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at Care One in Millbury.  Her loving husband of fifteen years, William L. Smith, predeceased her in June 2008.

Barbara is survived by her loving family, including a son, Timothy Dyer and his wife Lynne of Southbridge; a daughter, Margaret “Peggy” (Dyer) Maynard and her husband Andrew of South Grafton; William’s nine children, Dr. Stephen J. Smith of Manchester, NH, Valerie A. Buffone and her husband Peter of Millbury, Timothy J. Smith of Boston, Michael J. Smith and his wife Brenda of Oxford, John F. Smith and his wife Lisa of Worcester, Nancy M. Metivier and her husband Joseph of Worcester, William P. Smith and his wife Kim of Milford, David P. Smith and his wife Noni of Worcester, and Christopher J. Smith and his wife Jacqueline of Scituate.  She is also survived by her sister, Virginia Kneeland of Worcester; twelve grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by a brother and a sister, Charles Kneeland and Sr. Rita Kneeland, SSJ; and by her first husband, John J. Dyer.  Barbara was born in Worcester, daughter of the late, Frederick and Margaret (Callinan) Kneeland, and has lived here all her life.

Barbara worked in the Transportation Office of The Worcester School Department, having previously worked in the Cafeteria/School Lunch Office, dedicating over nineteen years to the youth of The City, before retiring in 1993.  She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Worcester and will be remembered as a very elegant, well-coiffed, kind lady.

Her entire family will miss her loving kindness.

Calling Hours for Barbara will be held on Monday, April 22, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester.  Her Funeral will be on Tuesday, April 23, from the funeral home, departing at 10:40 a.m., in procession, for an 11 a.m. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1290 Grafton Street, Worcester. Interment will follow in Saint John’s Cemetery, Worcester.
