Bartolomeo T. (Tom) Simone, 93 of Worcester, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 with his loving family by his side.
Bartolomeo, a son of the late Tomaso and Armida (Monfreda) Simone. He was born in Worcester and lived there his whole life. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy in the Korean War where he received the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Medal. Bartolomeo worked as a firefighter for the City of Worcester Fire Department for 30 years, retiring from the Grove Street Station, Ladder 2.
He was a lifelong member of the former Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church where he served as a eucharistic minister for many years. Bartolomeo was also a founding Gold Star member of the East Side Improvement Club. He enjoyed gardening, cooking and playing cards. He loved his faith, his church and especially his large Italian family. Bartolomeo will forever be known as “Tommy The Taralle King”.
Bartolomeo is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Winifred A. (Streeter) Simone; and six children, Gina Tangney and her husband Brian, Mary Jane Simone, Linda Lawton and her husband Tommy all of Worcester, Tommie Simone and his wife Kim of Bradenton, FL., Christina Simone-Chionchio of Worcester, and Paul Bisceglia and his wife Zen of South Carolina. Bartolomeo was blessed with twelve grandchildren, Brianne Tangney and her fiancé James Short of Millbury, TJ Lawton and his wife Katrina of Boylston, twins, John Tangney and his wife Pamela Martin of Sterling and Justin Tangney and his wife Athena of Bolton, Jordyn Ayers and her husband Michael of Worcester, Nick Lawton and his wife Kaleigh of Rutland, Lia Chionchio of Oxford, Vincent Simone of Florida, Ilana Simone of California, Antonio Chionchio of Webster and Max Simone and his wife Paula Alves of Worcester; thirteen great grandchildren, Josiah, Grace, Mila, Kairi, Liv, Luke, Avery, Harper, Leo, Calvin, Wren, twins, Lola Jessica and Michael; several nieces, nephews, friends and extended family. He is recently predeceased by his granddaughter, Jessica L. Simone on October 10, 2021. He is also predeceased by two brothers and three sisters, John “Mimi” Simone, Joseph “Blondie” Simone, Vincenza Quitadamo, Mary Salerno, and Maria Simone.

His Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, November 2nd at 11 am in St. Bernard’s Church of Our Lady of Providence Parish, 228 Lincoln St., Worcester. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester. Relatives and friends are invited to a period of calling hours on Wednesday morning from 8:30-10:30 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester prior to departing for his Funeral Mass.
