Brian F. Grimley, 79 of Boylston, passed away Thursday, May 19th, 2022, surrounded by loved ones after a short illness.
Brian was born in Worcester, the son of George and Marian (Guertin) Grimley. Raised in Shrewsbury, Brian graduated from Shrewsbury High School, a standout athlete and multiple team captain. He then earned his bachelor’s degree from Northeastern University and his master’s degree in education from Boston University. Brian went on to guide and educate high school students as a physical education teacher in the Ashland Public School system for over 35 years. In addition to teaching, Brian served as team coach for golf, track, cross country, tennis and basketball in Ashland. He also worked as a referee in high school and college level basketball and volleyball. He was a member of the IAABO and MIAA. In 2008, he was inducted into the Shrewsbury High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
Brian is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Kathleen M. (Sullivan) Grimley; his two beloved daughters, Dr. Dana M. Grimley and her husband Peter Breen of Clermont, Florida, and Lisa Howard and her husband Michael of Ellington, Connecticut; four cherished grandchildren, Keegan, Deklan, Cormac, and Neasa; A brother, Shaun Grimley and his wife Marcia of Templeton, Massachusetts; supporting and loving sister and brother in laws, Marlene and John Campbell; nieces and nephews, including his very special niece, Kathleen E. Grimley; and close friends, Ben Giacomelli and Carl Sharpe. He was predeceased by his loyal pet dog of nearly 20 years, Willy.
Brian a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, found his greatest joy with his family. Kathleen and Brian, loved to travel, making many trips to Ireland, New Brunswick Canada, and Cape Cod. Brian notably enjoyed cooking and found profound happiness in hosting family and friends for Christmas eve celebrations. He was a passionate sports fan, and devoted follower of the Patriots, the Red Sox, the Celtics and the Atlanta (former Boston) Braves. As “Coach Grim”, he passed on a love of sports, skill and sportsmanship to his students, many of whom had kept in touch over the years.
Friends and relatives are invited to a period of calling hours, Tuesday, May 24th from 5 pm to 7:30 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester, MA. His funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 25th at 10:30 am in the funeral home. Private burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances in his name cam be made to the Town of Boylston, Ambulance and Fire Emergency Services Relief, 221 Main Street Boylston MA. 01505
