Brian P. McDonagh, 61 a longtime Worcester resident passed away Sunday, August 22, 2021, with loved ones gathered at his side after a period of declining health.
Brian was born and raised in Worcester, one of five children of Patrick J. McDonagh and the late, Elaine T. (Rabidou) McDonagh. He graduated from North High, joined the U.S. Coast guard, serving his country aboard the USS Bittersweet out of Woods Hole Mass, later serving in Washington State following the Mt Saint Helens eruption. After discharge from the service, Brian earned his bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science from Mass Bay College. With a love for cooking, Brian accepted a position as a chef with the Public House in Sturbridge, later becoming a chef at Christos restaurant. He also worked with friends as a carpenter before retiring due to illness.
Brian was an enthusiastic NASCAR fan, following it religiously and at onetime he even served as a pit crew member for local racing teams. He also loved the outdoors, notably fishing, hiking, and enjoying nature. Brian cherished the times he could spend with his brothers, sisters, and family. Being with and around them were the special moments everyone will remember. He also enjoyed the summers and frequent visits to Old Orchard Beach to be with Patrice and other family members, as well as trips to North Carolina to visit his dad and Julie.
Brian is survived by his father, Patrick J. McDonagh and his longtime companion, Julianna Fewings, in North Carolina; his four devoted siblings, Paul M. McDonagh and his wife Cynthia of Westborough, Marybeth Fenuccio and her husband Raymond “Butch” of Worcester, Michael J. McDonagh and his wife Janet of Sandwich, Patrice A. Savage and her husband Michael of Old Orchard Beach, Maine; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, extended family members and friends.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend calling hours Friday, August 27th from 4 pm to 6 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, followed by a prayer service at 6pm. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in his name can be made to the Central Ma Vets, 60 Grove St Worcester 01608.
