Carmela "Millie" Bongovio

June 20, 1928 — December 1, 2023

Carmela M. “Millie” (Danna) Bongovio, 95 of Worcester, passed away peacefully in her home with her family by her side on Friday, December 1, 2023.

Millie was born in Worcester, a daughter of the late Domenic and Jenny (Gagliardi) Danna.  She grew up in Worcester off Shrewsbury Street and was and graduated in 1945 from Worcester Girls Trade.  Millie lived in Worcester all her life.  Millie was the owner of the former Millie’s Kitchen in Millbury.  She later worked as a waitress at WPI and Leo’s Restaurant.  Millie was a devout catholic who gave her children the gift of faith.  She was a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Church where she volunteered at Bingo, taught CCD and was the president of the Women’s Guild.

Millie’s husband, Donald J. Bongovio passed away in 1992.  She is survived by her son, Angelo Bongovio; two daughters, Donna M. Bongovio and Maryanne Bongovio-Army and her husband Donald all of Auburn; two grandchildren, Anthony Bongovio and his wife Tiffany and Thomas Bongovio and his wife Stephanie; seven great grandchildren, Avianna, Nathan, Julian, Vincent, Sofia, Carmela, and Gianna; many nieces and nephews.  She is predeceased by three brothers, Nunzio, Tristano and Thomas Danna and three sisters, Frances Basile, Elizabeth Basile and Josephine Sannicanaro.

Millie’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to her home health aide Mindy, her hospice nurses Tara and Holly and Lindsey her nurse from Auburn VNA for continued care and compassion given to Millie.

Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Monday, December 4, 2023 from 5-7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester.  Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 5th with a procession departing at 10:00 am from the funeral home to St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 5 Spaulding St., Worcester where her Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am.  Burial will follow in Saint John’s Cemetery, Worcester. Memorial contributions in her name can be made to: Box 4 Special Service Canteen, c/o Worcester Fire Department Credit Union, 34 Glennie St., Worcester, MA. 01605.
