Carol A. (Nelson) Toscano, 70, a lifelong resident of Worcester, dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at home surrounded by the family she loved.
Carol’s love and husband of 34 years, James J. Toscano passed away October 12, 2004; She is survived by her three children she loved and was so proud of, James J. Toscano, Jr. and his wife Cathy of Worcester, Marci M. Toscano-Cordero with whom she lived, Mathew A. Toscano and his wife Sofia of Uxbridge; four grandchildren she cherished who called her Nana; Jeremy, Antonio, Dominic, and Arianna. Carol also leaves two sisters, Jean Villa and her husband James of Yarmouth, Karen Nelson of Worcester; and two brothers, Wayne Nelson of Grafton, Edward Nelson and his wife Donna of Worcester, and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, her son-in law, Alberto A. Cordero passed away March 17, 2020. Carol was born in Worcester, a daughter of Carl and Olive Nelson. She was raised in Worcester and attended North High. Carol worked as a Mental Health Worker for over 38 years for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts at Worcester State Hospital before retiring. Carol then worked for Secon of New England Corporation for 5 years providing healthcare services. She was a member of Our Lady of Loreto Church.
Carol was a beautiful individual, who dedicated her life and love to her family, especially her grandchildren, who she enjoyed spending time with. Throughout her life she enjoyed attending her children’s and grand children’s sporting events and activities. She enjoyed anytime she spent with her family. She also loved to do “DIY” projects in her home. She loved attending church and having coffee with her sister-in-laws. All holidays were special. Any occasion when she could cook and bake for her family were special moments. She loved to bake her Italian cookies for her family and friends. Carol enjoyed vacationing and could be found making unplanned excursions with her family on a minute’s notice. Some of her other interests included her love of Dolphins, collecting jewelry and watches and watching her favorite TV show “The Walking Dead”. She had a strong will which helped her through any challenges and obstacles she faced in life. Her caring soul, bright smile and personality will be missed.
A period of calling hours will be held Wednesday, July 14th from 9 to 10:30 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St followed by a procession to Our Lady of Loreto Church, 37 Massasoit Rd where her funeral mass will be held at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery.
