Catherine N. (Njeri) Gittao, 67 of Worcester, passed away peacefully at UMass Medical Center.
Catherine was born in Nairobi, Kenya, a daughter of the late George Thairu Mutura and Susanah Wanjiru Kaheni. She received her high school diploma and later went on to earn her certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Catherine worked as a C.N.A for several years and most recently worked as a Home Health Aide Assistant for Family Tree. She was an active member of Bible Way Baptist Church, Finest Sisterhood of Worcester and other community organizations.
Catherine is survived by her daughter Susan Gittao, and her son Jay Gittao both from Worcester. Catherine is Sister to the late Thomas M. Thairu, the late James Mutura Thairu, the late Rosemary Nyambura, the late Grace Wakonyo Ikambi, the late keziah Njeri Kageni, the late Mrs. Serah Wanjiku Wanyoike, Edward K. Thairu, Eunice W. Kamau all from Kenya; and many nieces and nephews.
A period of calling hours will be held on Friday, September 25, 2020 from 5-7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. Her Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, September 26th at 9:00 am in Bible Way Baptist Church, 18 Heard St., Worcester, MA. 01603.
