It is with extreme sadness that we announce that Cebelis I. Crespo, 34, of Rutland, passed away, Wednesday, September 18th, 2024, surrounded by the family she loved, after a brief illness.
Cebelis was born in Newark, NJ, the daughter of Juanita Franqui, raised in Newark. She moved to Worcester and entered Quinsigamond Community College, as a work study student in the financial aid office. She graduated in 2014, earning her degree in Business with high honors. With the passion for helping others, after graduation she accepted a position with the college, in the financial aid office as a clerk. In 2021 she earned her promotion to financial aid counselor, managing the Federal Work Study program. Cebelis passionately helped guide many students through the federal requirements, to help ensure they received the education they strongly hoped for. As the President of QCC states “her impact extended beyond her duties, Cebelis had a special gift for connecting with students and built close friendships with many colleagues, both within and outside the office.”
Cebelis, is survived by her mother, Juanita Franqui of Auburndale, FL, six brothers, Steven Crespo and Antonio Gonzalez both in Florida, Luis Franqui, Jimmy Miranda, and Ismael Gonzalez, Jr all of Worcester, and Benny Malave, Jr of Newark, NJ; three sisters, Julie Gonzalez in Florida, Jessica Camacho and Stephanie Malave both in Newark; her maternal grandmother Anna Delia Lopez; stepparents, Benny Malave and his wife Elizabeth in Newark; Aunts, Uncles, nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Cebelis had a larger-than-life spirit, a giant smile, and a huge, loving heart. Her personality led to a successful life and career at an early age. She loved to dance, travel, cycling, nature, and bowling. She loved all people, and found her most memorable moments were those with family and friends. Her personality will be sorely missed by many.
A period of calling hours will be held Thursday, September 26th from 9 am to 11 am, followed by a prayer service in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Memorial remembrances in her name can be made to: A Scholarship Fund that will be created in Cebelis' name.
