Charles B. Price Sr., 96 of Bedford, Ma, formerly of Worcester passed away on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Bedford VA Hospital.

Charles was born in Granbury Texas on May 20, 1922 to Charles Bert Price and Virgie Tidwell Price. He enlisted in the Army during World War II in the 36’th Infantry Division (Texas and Oklahoma) on January 24, 1941 and served until Sept 2, 1944 when he was honorably discharged. He fought in the war in the Italy Campaign and received a Presidential Unit Citation for his service. When he returned home from the war, he worked for many companies briefly in the Worcester Area such as Morgan Construction and Rockwood Sprinkler Company. His major career was with the Rutland VA Hospital of Rutland, Massachusetts where he was a Receiving Officer for the Hospital Supplies for 15 years and was also the Vice President of the Government Employees Union from which he retired when the Hospital Closed. Charles was also a member of the former Adams Square Congregational Church. Later in his life after retirement, he belonged to the Greendale YMCA, he was a runner and belonged to the Central Mass Striders.

Charles’s wife Ruth S. (Stevens) Price passed away in 1991. He is survived by two sons, Randall S. Price and his wife Marilyn of Coral Gables, FL and Charles B. Price III and his wife Diane of Chelmsford, MA; five grandchildren, Deborah Virgona and her husband John, Karen Lynch and her husband Paul, Dennis Price, Linda Clicquennoi and her husband Jon and William Price; six great grandchildren, Christopher Virgona, Nicholas Virgona, Michael Virgona, Juliana Lynch, Connor Lynch, and Violet Clicquennoi. He is predeceased by five siblings, Martha, Harold, JS, Bobby and Lenora.

Charles’s funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 10:00 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. Burial alongside his wife will follow in Hope Cemetery, Worcester. A period of calling hours will be held on Friday, January 25th from 6-8 pm in the funeral home. The family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations can be made to the DAV (Disabled American Veterans, 255 Main St., Rm. 213, Marlborough, MA. 01752) as he was a life-long member.
