Cheryl A. “Tootie” Poirier, 65, a lifelong Worcester resident passed away surrounded by loved ones, Wednesday, August 16, 2023, after a courageous health battle.
Cheryl was born in Worcester, the day after Christmas, December 26, 1958, one of eight children of Catherine (Capuano) Fanion and the late, Earl E. Fanion. She graduated from North High and married her childhood sweetheart Michael “Mickey” Poirier. They settled in Worcester and lived a life of love with each other and family. Cheryl worked at the David Clark Company, Stop & Shop Supermarket on Grafton St and lastly the Xtramart Shell gas station before retiring.
Cheryl is survived by her love and soulmate Mickey; her mother, Catherine and six siblings, Edward Fanion and his wife Susan, of Worcester, Earl E. Fanion, Jr. (JoAnn) of Cherry Valley, Carol Nourse and her husband David of Leicester, Gary Fanion of Worcester, Sheila Howard and her husband Dennis of East Brookfield, and AnnMarie Thorpe and Fiancé Mel Jones of Bradenton, Florida; a sister-in-law, Kristina Fanion; many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. In addition to her father, a brother, Robert “Scooter” predeceased her.
Cheryl and Mickey dedicated their lives to each other. They were rarely seen apart and took care of one another. They enjoyed the solitude of camping in nature for over 30 years at their camp in Oakham and fishing trips to Cape Cod.
Cheryl had a zest for life, was kind, and a friend to all who encountered her, but most of all, she loved her family. Cheryl cherished the time she got to spend with her siblings and nieces and nephews sitting around the campfire or at the many holiday gatherings laughing and simply having a good time. She was a beautiful person inside and out and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
