Christopher Christopher

February 2, 1931 — December 23, 2023

Christopher (“Chris”) Christopher, 92, passed away peacefully at home in Westborough on Saturday, December 23, 2023 with his devoted wife, Jane, by his side. He was born on February 2, 1931 in the village of Polena, Albania, the son of Spiro and Caliopi (Kovachi) Christopher and emigrated to Worcester when he was 5 years old.

Chris graduated from South High School, and served in the U.S. Army, receiving several awards in 1956: Meritorious Service Award, Army of Occupation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree at Boston University School of Law in 1962. He was an editor of the Law Review and graduated Magna Cum Laude. In his career as an attorney, he was affiliated with the firm of Bowditch and Dewey for 22 years before becoming a founding partner of the law firm Christopher, Hays, Wojcik & Mavricos in 1989. In 2012, Chris was honored by the Worcester County Bar Association for his 50 years of service to the legal profession. Chris’ interests included real estate, and as the founder of Westwood Development and Christopher Real Estate, he was responsible for developing over 1000 single family homes and condominiums in Central Massachusetts. These achievements came from a start as an Albanian immigrant boy shining shoes in the bars of Worcester. When Chris was 12 years old, the death of his father (at age 36) required him to take on additional jobs throughout his high school years to help support the family.  He did make time, however, to play on his high school football team.

Chris is survived by his wife, Jane, and his six children Donna, Steven and his partner Dianne Person, Joanne and her partner Christopher Mathews, Maria and her partner Ayal Naor, Tina, and Terri and her husband Adam McGrath. He is also survived by Jane’s daughter Angela and her husband Paul Hartland, as well as, by his brother Peter Christopher and his wife Georgia, their sons, Noel and Jaret, and by many other nieces and nephews.

Chris was warm-hearted, good-humored and an avid sports fan, especially football. He was generous and had a special connection to the Worcester Boys and Girls Club, which honored him with induction into its Hall of Fame in 2007. He was a humble man, although not so humble about having been the 1948 Boys Club National Pull-Up Champion.

Funeral services will be held privately. MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester is honored to be assisting the family with arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: Boys & Girls Club of Worcester, Attn: Liz Hamilton, 65 Boys & Girls Club Way, Worcester, MA. 01610 or via online at www.bgcworcester.org
