Clarence Sumokollie Kamara, a son of Totoquelleh, Bopolu District, Gbarpolu County, Liberia was born on March 12, 1950, onto the union of Beyan Dartuwai Kamara and Moloweh Kanneh Kamara. That birthdate can be marked as a great day because a true son of the soil was born! As it is for everyone, once you are born, you must die and so following a brief illness, the sun descended on Clarence's life at exactly 8:58pm on April 7, 2021 at the Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts, USA.
The late Clarence Sumokollie Kamara was born in Totoquelleh and as a young boy completed his elementary schooling in Lofa County. He then went to Bomi Hills where he attended the Allen Yancy Public School and later moved to be with his elder brother, Mr. Harold Gibson in Grand Bassa County, where he completed his secondary schooling at the Bassa High School and there he obtained his high school diploma. He enrolled at the Liberian University (LU), in Monrovia, Liberia, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. During the civil unrest in Liberia, Clarence found his way to the United States (US) and further his studies at the Quinsigamond Community College, in Worcester, Massachusetts.
Clarence worked with the Liberian American-Swedish Mining Company (LAMCO) Plant Protection Force (PPF) for many years and later served in the capacity as Adjutant General with the Liberian Government at the Executive Mansion until his departure to the US. As a hard-working man who always provided for his family, Clarence found employment with the Zayre Corporation (TJX), an American multinational off-price department store corporation, headquartered in Framingham, Massachusetts. Clarence worked with the TJ Maxx and TJX stores until his retirement.
The Late Clarence Sumokollie Kamara is survived by his wife who have known him for over thirty seven (37) years and been married to him for eighteen (18) unbroken years, Mrs. Benetta Nuwo Jensen Kamara; Children: Malikee (Helen); Sayday Kamara Williams (Sammy Lee), Marwah, Momolu, Beyan, and Moloweh Kamara Freeman (Wlati); Grandchildren: Blessing, Webster, Angel, Clarence, Benetta Adeshewa, Benaiah Dartuwai, Edson, Amaya, and AnnMarie; Brothers: Bambu, Beyan, David and Edison; Sisters: Korpu, Hannah, Klubor and Kanemassa; Adopted Children: Desmond Kamara, Attia Brown and Matthew Kamei; a host of uncles, aunties, nieces, nephews, cousins, and several other relatives in Liberia and the USA.
Clarence Sumokollie was a member of the National Rifle Association (NRA) and the Webster Lodge AF & AM (Massachusetts). An astute and upstanding citizen, Clarence believed in hard work and discipline and never shy away from speaking the truth. He loved the Lord and was a family man who loved his wife and dotted on his children and grandchildren. He became a child when his grandchildren were around, laughing, running, joking and playing hide and seek with them. He was a great entertainer and love to play his African music; whether it was just him listening or enjoying it in the company of his family and friends. Clarence Sumokollie Kamara will deeply be missed! We bid you farewell Clarence until we meet again on that celestial shore. May your soul and the souls of the faithfully departed, rest in perfect peace.
